I decided to do a PhD because the institutional support to dig deeply into one research question for entire years is something I was drawn to. The motivation and what I've gotten out of it thankfully align!

The most challenging part of doing a PhD is the uncertainty that there is no known answer documented somewhere, and that the answer we end up finding might not align with expectations

My favorite part of my graduate program is the people!  But if I have to go with a less common answer, I'd say the restaurants on Thayer.

After my PhD, I hope to go into industry in an R&D role.

Outside of work, I enjoy video games, reading, climbing, and playing piano.

Highlighted work:

Paper: Simulation-based benchmarking of ancient haplotype inference for detecting population structure

Presentation: “Improving Local Ancestry Inference through Neural Networks,” talk at SMBE 2024.
